The Round Hill Box The Round Hill Box

Every month we will bring you two brand new, truly exceptional coffees. Bringing together bright and vibrant coffees from producers that we work closely with, always in line with the changing seasons. This box is an opportunity for us to share our most exciting micro-lots, never repeating a coffee within a calendar year. We roast and ship these coffees at the beginning of each month so all new orders placed will be not be shipped immediately.

Box 016 will ship on the 01st of May. This month we’ve picked two coffees from one producer Juan Saldarriaga. Juan is one of our key partners who we buy the most volume from so it seemed fitting to also release an article all about transparency with this month's edition.

  • La Claudina #3

Juan has two farms El Encanto where his father lives and La Claudina where this lot comes from. We’ve pretty consistently found that although the coffees from both farms are excellent, coffees from La Claudina are our favourite. We get a large volume of coffee from La Claudina for our Unit Fourteen but it is really special to have smaller lots like this at other points of the year.

  • El Encanto #1

This coffee comes from El Encanto, one of Juan Saldarriaga’s two farms just outside of Bolivar in Antioquia. El Encanto is Juan’s father Luis Saldarriaga’s favourite farm, he lives there and helps keep it in beautiful condition. The naturals are largely dried using a cold parabolic dryer on account of the tropical high humidity climate making it difficult to dry naturals without them succumbing to over-ferment.

Seasonal buying is about seeing coffee as a crop not a commodity, buying in harmony with the growing seasons to enjoy coffee at its best. This kind of buying has always been the backbone of our business and it’s something we’ve improved and refined every year.
